As I get closer and closer to graduating high school and entering college, I realize that changes will happen in my life very soon. And to be perfectly honest, the idea of change in my life and the idea of losing stability is terrifying for me. Yet change can be seen as the very thing that drives life forward. Although we are accustomed to the idea of homeostasis, change happens all the time, on a molecular level, an ecological level, and in my own life. Let’s take a deep look into how change drives science and beyond.
What does that say about me?
Feelings and emotions can be expressed in a variety of ways. The things we say and the things we do expose our inner thoughts to the people around us. But to what extent can these two means of expression reveal the truth within ourselves? Continue reading
Okay, starting next week is the beginning of AP testing in my school. You know what that means, stress, procrastination, and of course, cramming two weeks before the test. Luckily, this is only my first year taking the AP test, and I only have one, but nevertheless, just thinking about the AP test makes me nervous. So obviously, studying is the best way to do well on tests, but are there any other factors that we can control? What does science have to say about productivity and the best ways to stay concentrated? Continue reading
We all have been in the face of failure and defeat and we never like it. And yes, we have always been told things like “Never give up, never surrender,” or something along those lines. But what makes people successful, innovative, and resilient? How can you recover from failure? I’ll talk about my own experiences, but first lets see how successful people see failure.
During these days, whether you like it or not, we are constantly being monitored and tracked. Don’t believe me? In Minneapolis, a father walked into a Target Store demanding Target to apologize. His high school daughter had been mailed coupons to baby appliances, and was therefore suggesting for his daughter to get pregnant. After they apologized, the father realized that his daughter was indeed pregnant. But how did Target know this? As it turns out, Target had been tracking the products she had recently been buying, and the algorithms pointed to the fact that she was pregnant, and so she was mailed the coupons. Okay, that isn’t even the begging of ways to monitor and track people down. We have mobile phones with built in GPS, debit card information, and much more. Despite all this, around 2000 people in the US disappear completely. How is this possible? Lets find out.
The reason why society is what it is right now and why human knowledge is where it’s at, is due in part to human curiosity. Why did you choose to read this blog post? Most likely it is because you are curious about the topic of curiosity. Continue reading
We’ve all been there. We’ve all been told not to take things for granted and to always appreciate what you have. But we really don’t know the true meaning of these words until we have a big life experience that teaches us this lesson, or unless there is a valid argument explaining this. So obviously since I can’t give you an adventure, let’s try and explain the science behind gratitude. Just so we can understand it a little better.
So I know I’ve already talked about Happiness in a previous post, but I still would like to touch on the topic. Why is this? Well for one thing, finals just ended and finally after 2 months since its release, I watched Disney’s “Frozen” and so I would like to talk more about the happiness. Well rather the science of it anyways.
Stuff in your past is like a carving on a tree, a scar, it doesn’t go away and it may even get darker, but it will not get bigger. You on the other hand, you will get bigger, you will expand and grow into different branches and be bigger and better. Continue reading
So with the world always moving forward, and people needing to become more innovative I thought it would be appropriate to talk about what it takes to be an innovator and its idea process. As innovation comes, larger scale thinking, motivation, and out of the box ideas are required.
